Douglas R. Rich has a career in healthcare consulting that spans more than 30 years.  At ASR Planning his primary role is to establish and maintain client relationships where he is actively involved in strategic planning, medical staff development planning, business unit planning, corporate restructuring and multi-institutional system development.  In addition, Doug develops and conducts consumer surveys for his clients.

Prior to joining ASR Planning in 2005, Mr. Rich spent 26 years with TriBrook Healthcare Consultants where he rose from staff consultant to president before the company was sold.  Doug’s clients include over 300 healthcare organizations in the 48 contiguous states and Alaska.  A number of clients rely on his insights and knowledge of the healthcare field on a continuing basis.  

Mr. Rich’s recent consulting engagements include:

·  Development of strategic plans for three organizations within a large multi-hospital system in the Mid-Atlantic.

·  Development of a service distribution plan for ambulatory and acute programs for a division of a university healthcare system in Maryland.

·  Provision of guidance to a “tweener” hospital in rural Iowa that resulted in a successful affiliation with major teaching hospital in  Des Moines.

·  Preparation of demand projections and physician needs plans for a hospital in suburban Chicago.

·  Strategic planning assistance for the surgery section of a teaching hospital in central Illinois.

Prior to his consulting career, Doug was employed in the education division of the Maryland Hospital Association.  In this position, he developed a book on organizing hospital-based ambulatory care programs, and he assisted in the development of a series of ambulatory care seminars. 

An active participant in the healthcare field, Mr. Rich frequently addresses healthcare industry groups.    Mr. Rich is a credentialed Fellow and former Chairman of the Board of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and former member of the College’s Healthcare Consultants Committee, a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and a member of the Chicago Health Executives Forum. 

A graduate of the Master of Health Administration Program at Duke University, he completed his administrative residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
